Happy VD!
Having a Valentine birthday has worked out well for me because I don’t like birthdays, and Valentine’s Day takes the focus off of my advancing age. When I was single, it was a diversion for my single friends and me. Who needs a love interest when there’s birthday cake? It was kind of an awkward holiday when I was dating; a Valentine and birthday puts a lot of pressure on a guy, but at least all the mandatory celebrations were taken care of in one day. And now that I’m married, GC and I split up the festivities. I cook a fancy dinner for him on Valentine’s Day, which means that I get to spend the day doing something I love, and get to avoid the long waits, rushed dinner, harried service and subpar food on the busiest day of the year for restaurants. (Note: If you couldn't make dinner reservations at your favorite fancy restaurant, try White Castle.) Then later in the week or month, he takes me out to a special dinner at a place of my choosing or we celebrate with friends. As I said, I don’t really like birthdays (well, mine in particular), so last year I tried to plan a surprise birthday party for myself – with the surprise being that only I knew it was a birthday party. We made plans to go bowling with friends, but GC spilled the beans and there were cupcakes and maybe a little bit of singing. This year, I’ve decided to publicly acknowledge my birthday. I’m thirty.
I started the festivities this morning on a sugar-high from three (one for each decade) Krispy Kreme doughnuts. GC was home sick from work this morning, so got to share breakfast with me. I have leftover pizza and breadsticks scheduled for lunch. It will be a gluttonous day. I shouldn't be alone in this; you should help me celebrate turning 30. Go to the nearest Food City and pick up a piece of birthday cake at the bakery counter. Order dessert. Eat something sinful and decadent.

I began your big day by driving through some snow to get to school... I took some pictures of the playground and sent them to the hot weather guy on WBIR-- he in turn put them on the noon news... Really the only work we did @ school today was some math. We had a FIESTA planned for the 5th grade... each class made salsa (I still smell like onions)... we decorated some VD crafts and bags for our Valentines... After lunch was the FIESTA... complete with the class-made salsa, soft tacos, guac (made by me), and of course, all the cupcakes and junk that you bring to elementary school on VD.
Tonight is SOLOPOLOOZA... Purple Fried Okra, Julio, Josh and I are celebrating being single by preparing and eating a meal full of garlic... I made a chocoloate kahlua cheesecake to celelbrate you... and there will, of course, be alcohol... and movies where things blow up and people die.
Yeah.
HAPPY 30th!!!

Happy 30th!
I celebrated your birthday by taking half the day off due to weather. One of our Vice Presidents made the call, so I drove home while it was still light and then had a harrowing walk from where I park to the house. I waded through deep pools of frigid water, running upstairs at my apartment and stripping all the wet items on me, remembering what I learned on Man vs Wild and keeping from getting water all over the apartment.
I ate cherry amaretto oatmeal cookies for dessert/birthday fun. YUMMY!

I celebrated Blue Artichoke's birthday by spending the whole day in velour lounge wear, by watching makeover shows on TLC, and by eating Valentine's Day Peeps. Woohoo! (At 32, I have to say the 30s are pretty good--not quite as frenzied as the 20s.) Happy Birthday!

I celebrated Valentine's Day/Blue Artichoke's birthday by spending the day in boring meetings, taking meds for a bad sinus headache and cooking omelets for dinner because my other half had the flu. Not a notable Feb. 14, to be sure. However, hope yours was absolutely lovely.
