Warthog, We Hardly Knew Ye

It's done. Njiri, aka the Warthog, aka my Toyota Camry has been sold. GC and I planned to do it last weekend, but the ice storm nixed those plans. We were more successful today, but just barely. I sold the warthog to Carmax; the closest one is in Independence, MO, just east of Kansas City and about 1-1/2 hours from home. We slept in, ate a leisurely breakfast and headed out, but not before I did a rubbing of the cracked armrest for memorabilia. I enjoyed our last ride together, just me and the warthog, like so many drives before. Poor car didn't even know it was our last time together. Though I love my new car, which is an Acura, by the way, not a dump truck, I have an unnatural attachment to the Warthog. It's like a first love, a high school sweetheart; you'll always have a soft spot even when you know it's time to move on.

Just before we got to Carmax, it started snowing. It took a little more than an hour for the appraisal and paperwork, all the while the snow fell. GC drove us home through the blizzard. It took about 3 hours, with a stop for dinner and a visit to the Bass Pro Shop. The road conditions were less than desirable, and visibility very low, but GC is an intrepid driver and got us home safe and sound, but for a few tense muscles and white knuckles.

Now I will work on my Ode to the Warthog.

Getting to Know All About You: What was your first car, or your favorite car?

Comments

Did you tell the Carmax people the unique armrest crack was made by the elbow of THE black cake? My first car was a wine-colored '87 Corolla. It had tinted windows and sporty markings, but the engine had all the power of a lawn mower. I used to drive around with Vanilla Ice on the cassette player. A friend named the car Maureen after the president of the College Republicans at my school.

My first car was a 1963, pea green, 4-door Buick that could comfortably sleep 6 in the trunk and was lovingly called "The Tank."

First car? Mom's old cinnamon-colored 1978 Oldmobile Delta 88 (diesel). Same approximate dimensions as Chartreuse BLT's Buick. I HATED everything about that car!

Best car? my current one, which is a '94 Honda Del Sol. Obvious opposite from everything about a 1978 Olds.

First car: '87 Honda Civic, followed by a mid-90s Honda Civic. I was very boring but practical there for a while.

First car was a 1971 VW Beetle with no floor. first REAL car was a 1988 Audi 80 that lasted forever. Favourite is my Golf. It's only a couple of years old, a turbodiesel, and has heated seats. His name is Otto, after Otto von Bismarck.

1991 red Ford Mustang... V8-- which I miss now with my measley 4 cylinders... I like my current car as well-- 2000 Honda CRV.. BRIGHT BLUE... ah yeah! Next car will have a sun roof, however... and those heated seats sound nice...
